R&R New Options Equine practices Fear Free Training. We build trust with our horses, not fear and submission. The following pictures are an example of the results of Fear Free Training. Merriah took her horse, Mercedes to a Play Day Event.
This event held many first for Mercedes. It was her first time out of her pasture, her first time at an event. She took a third place in Poles and a fifth place in Keyhole.
Mercedes stayed calm and went willingly, she had a very good time. We are all looking forward to doing it again next year.
This was the first time Mercedes had seen a red and white barrel. Our barrels were green. Instead of kicking her or getting angry because Mercedes hesitated, Merriah said, "Come on Mercedes! You can do it!" And Mercedes did it. With all the noise and people watching, they both finished the course and took a ribbon. We were all so proud.
Merriah earned this horse. She spent 4 years stumbling through the mud to feed horses, cleaned stalls, rode green horses, baled hay and anything else we asked her to do, she did without complaining. Her reward was Mercedes, the world's smallest warmblood.
Lynnette also attended the Play Days event with her horse Touch. Touch had belonged to people who didn't know about horses and learned he could get his own way. They thought he was uncontrollable.
Lynnette found his stubborn side endearing and they learned to be great partners. We call them the Fred Astare and Ginger Rogers of the barrel racing world!
